WNBA Added

Written by Garion on June 6th, 2008 in Basketball, CentSports Updates.

I know it’s been a bit quiet here lately but I will be trying to post a lot more and keep this blog up to date. Now with the NBA coming to a close we have the womans basketball to bet on with the WNBA being added.

I can’t say I know much about the WNBA so it will be a lot of guesswork for me until I take a closer look. Though looking at the current standings it looks like Detroit, Connecticut and Minnesota are all playing very well.

Where did Puttzy Go?

Written by Garion on May 8th, 2008 in CentSports.

I actually noticed yesterday that Puttzy was no longer Admin, I guess he finally decided to take a break after all the hassles, problems and complaints he and the other Admins had to deal with over the last few weeks.

It’s a shame as he was a great help to Centsports, with himself and hockeybets being so active on the forum there was usually at least one of them around to help and answer questions. We will have one less Admin to help cure those problems that pop up from time to time and need a quick fix.

Plus his GreaseMonkey scripts were great and use a couple that made the site a lot easier to navigate. Hopefully he isn’t gone permanently as his post were always a good read whether you agreed with him or not.

AFL Added and Crony Bonuses Back to 5%

Written by Garion on May 5th, 2008 in AFL, CentSports Updates.

Additionally to todays new cashout bracket system we saw a quick return back to 5% crony bonuses which I am sure will please all members.

Plus we saw Arena Football added today, personally I have never had any interest in it but hey the more sports being added the better and I placed a bit on Chicago Fire today. They seemed to be doing well in the standings to worth a small amount placed on them.

Cashout bracket system

Written by Garion on May 5th, 2008 in CentSports Updates, Payments.

The Cashout Bracket System

How do cashouts work on CentSports? The model is simple: we get in money from the ads on the site and we try to get as much of that to you as possible in the form of cashouts.

So here we go, first off, you have to have a balance of $20 or more to cash out. If you don’t have $20, well, then rob a hobo. Preferably a rich hobo.

The Bracket System:

we have a cashout period each week. At the beginning of the week we determine how much money we have available for cashouts.

1) Depending on cashout trends we create cashout “brackets”. For example, there might be one bracket for people who want to cash out $20-$30, another for people cashing out $30-$40 etc. We allocate a certain amount of cashout money to each bracket based on past cashout trends.

2) If you want to cash out, you enter your name in the appropriate bracket (click one of the brackets on the cashout page).

3) If someone with a higher balance than you enters your bracket, they take precedence over you … i.e., people are ranked (in each bracket) in order of balance.

4) At the end of the week, we cash people out for their requested amount in the order they’re ranked in the bracket until the cashout allotment for that week (for that bracket) is used up. You know if you’re high enough in the bracket to cashout if your name is in green on the bracket listing. If you’re in red that means that people above you have used up the cashout allotment for the period; however, you can move up the list by increasing your balance and go from red to green, or you can also move up if people above you make stupid bets and drop their balance.

5) You may not submit requests for multiple brackets, or make multiple submissions to the same bracket.

6) If you’re name is in green by the end of the bracket period posted on the cashout page, we’ll email you saying, “Hey tell us where to send the check” … so your email on your account better be correct, because otherwise, if we don’t hear back from you, your spot gets pushed down to the next person on the list.

SOME PROVISIOS:

Putting your name in a cashout bracket does NOT take money out of your account. Money does not come out of your account until we print the check, so you can’t LOSE anything by entering a cashout bracket.

Since that’s the case, after you enter your name in the bracket, you can still keep betting as normal. However, your balance at the end of the cashout period determines your rank. So, if you enter a cashout bracket and then lose all your money, well, then the guys below you are going to move up, and you’re just screwed. So, feel free to keep betting, just remember, it’s your balance at the END of the bracket period that matters.

That also means that your rank can fluctuate without you doing anything … maybe someone gets lucky and shoots straight to the top of the bracket or, better for you, maybe someone gets really unlucky and drops off, boosting your ranking.

Is Soccer Betting Confusing?

Written by Garion on May 2nd, 2008 in Soccer.

Personally I feel the answer is no but then again I have been betting on Soccer for a long time so I know the betting rules but to those new to betting on Soccer the answer would have to be yes.

There has been some confusion over this week Champions League and UEFA Cup betting mainly due to the rules not being set out prior to the games being played. Hopefully we will see an addition very soon to the FAQ page to help save the confusion before this problem comes up again.

The biggest confusion is that Soccer betting only includes the 90 minutes plus any injury time of regulation it doesn’t include extra-time or penalties unless stated in a bet description. Plus also at a traditional Sportsbook a tie would also be an option and that will probably be coming to Centsports soon so we will see a lot less push results making it actually harder to win on Soccer.

It’s understandable that people are confused and didn’t realize this about Soccer betting as we all know in NFL, NBA, NHL there is always overtime to decide a winner and that is included in the betting lines.

Hopefully these early problems won’t force Centsports to remove Soccer as it seems to have become a very popular addition, especially as it gives people in the US more afternoon betting opportunities.

A lot of people may dislike these decisions but I feel it the best changes the site has done recently. I certainly was not in favor of the recent betting lines difference but I see the reason for it.

The first update today is that crony earnings have now been reduced to 1% which I think is the best idea for the site as 5% has always been over generous. Many have posted about this on the forums and I personally PM’d and emailed the main site Admins a couple weeks ago that this would be a good option when they started making the recent changes. I feel also the crony earnings need to be calculated once per day and only pay out on the profit made and not on every winning bet.

I know not all people will like this decision as they will say all the promotion they have done and built a nice amount of cronies. To keep Centsports running and financially stable changes have to be made some good and some bad. I would rather see the site make changes than have to close down and vanish. Plus I have a good amount of cronies and think this is the best change they have and could have made of all the recent changes.

Secondly the recent controversial decision to alter the lines has been reversed and they should now all be set back to normal though we may see the occasional weird line till the system is finally back to normal.

Lastly the you can no longer cancel bets you make so make sure you check them before you finalize the bet. Again a decision I agree with as like traditional Sportsbook you can’t alter your bet once its been placed to try get better odds later.

More Soccer Leagues Added

Written by Garion on April 22nd, 2008 in CentSports Updates, Soccer.

We have all been waiting for them to arrive and now additional leagues are ready for us to bet on. The new leagues added today are the United States, Italian, Spanish and German leagues plus Champions League and UEFA Cup.

So this week we will have soccer to bet on everyday, though I am a little out of touch of the other European leagues so time to do some additional study for the upcoming games.

The more soccer we get the better in my eyes as since it has been added I have lately been doing very well, plus I have got the hang of baseball betting also putting a nice string of results together.

Good luck all on the new leagues.

UFC Lines Now Added

Written by Garion on April 16th, 2008 in Boxing/MMA/UFC, CentSports Updates.

People have been asking for it for awhile and UFC/MMA lines have now been added. This weekend’s Mixed Martial Arts fights lines are now available for your viewing pleasure.

I am surprised that this has been added before the return of the Tennis and Boxing lines after the problems that happened before. Hopefully any problems have been ironed out. But I am happy to see more sports being added as the more the merrier.
